Big Band Dance To Honor Veterans

Get “In The Mood” to jump and jive with the “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” when the Port Clinton Senior Citizens, and several other local organizations, honor Veterans and members of the Armed Forces at a Big Band Dance. The “Big Band Dance in Tribute to Our Veterans” will be held on Sunday November 3 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
at Port Clinton High School.
This is the 16th year that this popu- lar event will be held, according to Juanita Mills-Persely. She and John Culp (U.S. Navy retired) are the Co-Chairs. Tickets for the event only cost $10 in advance or $12 at the door and are available at the Port Clinton Senior Center and Mary’s Blossom Shoppe.
Once again this
year, it will feature
the music of the
Night Session Big
Band. The well-known band has played at this event for more than 13 years.
Dancing isn’t required though it might be hard to sit still. The band plays a wide variety of Big Band and swing music and the past couple of years, their rendition of Hi-De-Ho from “Minnie the Moocher” sung by Cab Calloway has had attendees up on their feet, Mills-Persely added.
The dance is open to the public and gives everyone an opportunity to have fun and to enjoy great food and music while honoring veterans and members of the military. “We hold it from two to five in the afternoon so that people can go to church, enjoy a light breakfast or lunch and then come enjoy the dance. It features a hors d’oeuvres bar but it’s really a little meal,” Mills-Persely said.
