Deer Park Success

For 63 years, the Nielsen fami- ly has been putting smiles on the faces of visitors and introducing them to animals from across
the world at the Lagoon Deer Park.
When Herb and Pat Niel-
sen took their family on va-
cation in 1954, they visited an
animal petting zoo and saw the
joy that it brought to people. Herb, a
commercial fisherman on Lake Erie, wanted to start his own
business and was so impressed by the petting zoo that he decided to bring one to his hometown of
Sandusky.
So, in 1956, Herb and
Pat founded the Lagoon Deer Park. The park has
