next level. It’s time for a new mind to come in,” Jeff said.
Today, the park features more than 200 animals from around the world. There are six breeds of deer, goats, sheep, llamas, peacocks, elk, miniature donkeys, emus, rheas and a Scot- tish Highlander. For just a few dollars, visi- tors can purchase food to feed all of the animals at the park. Some of the animals roam free in the park so visitors can feed and pet them. They are friendly and excited to see visitors and to enjoy their treats.
In addition to the six acre petting zoo, the park has 50+ acres of ponds. The four ponds are stocked with large- mouth bass, rock bass, bluegills, catfish, rain- bow trout, muskies and
northern pike. Anglers can bring their own bait and fishing gear, and can fish the day (or night) away for a small fee.
Lagoon Deer Park was closed due to high water early in the 2019 summer season, however it is now re-opened daily through October 31, weather per- mitting.

Jeff is proud of the park and the opportunity that it provides for visitors to get up close and personal with animals. And, he is especially proud that it remains a family business.
Jeff grew up helping out in the park, and actually began getting a paycheck when he was 15 years old. He has been running the park for 35 years and has enjoyed having his own family help with its oper- ations as well. Over the years, his wife, Chris and his three daughters, Cindy, Maria and Amanda have helped with ev- erything from bookkeeping to feeding animals to welcoming
guests.
“My mom worked at
the park until she was 82 or 83 years old. We keep her involved as much as we can. I also have my three daughters who help me. Since it was founded, four generations of our family have worked here,” Jeff said.
Chris helps out with bookkeeping while Maria is a school teacher and Aman- da is a student at Bowling Green State University. Cindy, who is getting her master’s degree from Hei- delberg College, is planning to return to the park and help shape its future. Jeff is excited about her enthusi- asm and the park’s future.
