Skip’s Antique Cars Continued from page 1
If you haven’t had a chance to see the parade, and want to learn more about the island’s colorful automotive history, you should plan to visit Skip’s Antique Car Museum. The museum, located at Perry’s Cave and Family Fun Cen- ter, is a great family-friend- ly place to visit and there’s no admission charge.
The vehicles in the muse- um were collected by Dug- gan over many years and the museum is dedicated to his memory. It is a fasci- nating place for both adults and kids to visit. Located in an antique car barn, it fea- tures more than two dozen vehicles including a number of Ford Model Ts and Model As. Duggan was especially
fond of those cars and had several unique models in his collection.
There are also some un- usual vehicles on display, including vintage golf carts, a bright red popcorn truck, scooters, a snowmo- bile (used to deliver mail in Minnesota) and even an ice truck. Some of the vehicles have never (or rarely) been driven on the mainland. Most of them can still be driven today and you may spot them in the parade on
Sunday afternoon.
To help visitors under-
stand and appreciate the history of the vehicles and their use on the island, Jim Wilson, the museum care- taker developed a video that features many island residents who have helped renovate and restore the vehicles. Some of the narra- tors were the previous own- ers of the vehicles and share colorful stories of their use in the past. If you’d like to learn more before visiting
Jim Wilson and Skip’s son Chip Duggan are now the caretakers for Skip’s Museum.

“There are so many really cool stories about these cars and the people who owned them that I wanted to cap- ture,” Wilson said.
“I want visitors, especial- ly young people, to develop an appreciation of island history and the impact that these cars had on the is- land’s society,” he added.
Wilson said he wants to produce a second video so that he can share more of the history and the stories of each of the cars.
So take a few minutes during your busy day and take a stroll through his- tory by visiting Skip’s An- tique Car Museum. The Antique Car Museum is open daily May through September and on week- ends the rest of the year.
