Asked why they should receive a loan to buy the Sandusky Perkins, Dick responded, optimistically, “I have noth- ing to lose and everything to gain.”
Supportive of area schools, Dick hired gener-
ations of families over the years. Students who worked at the restaurant learned cleanliness pays, as he often hid a $20 bill under the ap- pliances. The hardworking employee who found it got to keep it.
When asked the key to success, Dick concluded, “You have to be honest. You have to treat your custom- ers as guests in your home, and, most importantly, treat your help with respect.”
