July 2016
“I really, deeply believe that dreams do come true. Often, they might not come when you want them. They come
in their own time.”
-Diana Ross
The incomparable Diana Ross is per- forming on our North Coast this month. To many of us Motown lovers of the 50+gen- eration, Ms. Ross continues to be the mu- sic industry’s classiest diva-ever. She will grace the stage of Northfield’s Rocksino July 31 with her glamorous presence and a voice like no other, belting out hit after timeless hit.
August brings a broad range of “take me back” concerts for lakeshore ba- by-boomers with Paul McCartney at “The Q”, Chicago at the Rocksino, Kiss at Tole- do’s Huntington Center, and Janet Jackson at “The Q”. Claim your seat at one or all of these awesome concerts this summer and restore your soul with the music of “when you were young”!
The Farmers’Market—
Eat Local, Buy Local
“What makes the farmers’ market such a special place is that you are actu- ally creating communi-
ty around food”, says
echo-chef and author
Bryant Terry. Begin-
ning in July, commu-
nity, agriculture and
business come togeth-
er all along our lake-
shore to offer a cul-
tural tradition not to
be missed—the local
farmers’ market.
Whether roadside or smack in the middle of downtown, these fabulous mar- kets are treasures of tastes, sights and sounds. They have become gathering plac- es for families, friends, chefs, seniors and artisans. Live music, activities that promote health and well-being, fresh produce and meats, baked goods, plants, flowers and the creations of local artists all make shopping a delight! Come meet the people that grow your groceries...and go home with nourish- ing food that is as real as it gets—fresh from the farm!
Locate one in your area at www.ohi- oproud.org or www.farmersmarketonline. com.
Marblehead Summerfest July 22-24
James Park in historic downtown Marblehead will be the setting for the Marblehead Summerfest, sponsored by St. Joseph Church Choir. This much-awaited family-fun festival features ten to twelve carnival rides, a midway of games, various vendors, food (including Lake Erie Perch, brats and sauerkraut, pulled pork, hot dogs, pierogi, French fries, nachos, funnel cakes, cotton candy, hand-dipped corn dogs, taffy, and more), a bake sale, hourly raffles, and a
beer tent with live entertainment. Other activities will feature kids’ fun with prizes for the winners of each event. A perfect summer
festival for the entire family!
Be sure to patronize the quaint local establishments while going to and from the Summer- fest...and stop for a relaxing glass of local wine at Rocky Point Win-
ery, just steps away!
