And Notes
Project Lifesaver Is Available To Help
Did you know that Ottawa County has the ability to provide an active response to the problem of locating people who may not be able to find their way home before they become a victim? Project Lifesaver of Ottawa County, part of the international community of Project Lifesaver utilizes wristband transmitters, with a unique radio signal for each person, that enable the search team, utilizing a specific receiver, to track several miles on the ground and by air, via the Life Flight helicopter. The average rescue time is less than 30 minutes.
A person with any kind of memory loss or developmental disability may be unaware of his/her situation and may not seek help. If the person is wearing the transmitter, the chance of finding that person before harm finds them increases drastically. A team of community volunteers and members of the Sheriff’s Office are trained in rescue operations including how to approach a person with memory loss or developmental disability so as to gain their trust and put them at ease once located.
If you or someone you know is caring for a person who might benefit from this valuable ser- vice, please contact Project Lifesaver of Ottawa County at 567.262.3133. The primary mission of Project Lifesaver International is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children with the propensity to wander due to a cognitive condi- tion. Project Lifesaver believes in the mission. Let’s bring our loved ones home.
Free Admission Days At National Parks
All National Park Service sites will have six entrance fee-free days in 2021. The fee-free days are part of the unprecedented commitment to increase access, promote recreational opportunities, improve visitor facilities and conserve natural and historical treasures in national parks for the benefit and enjoyment of the American people.
The dates for 2021 are: Saturday, April 17 – First Day of National Park Week Wednesday, August 4 – One year anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act Wednesday, August 25 – National Park Service Birthday Saturday, September 25 – National Public Lands Day Thursday, November 11 – Veterans Day
There are more than 400 National Park Service sites nationwide, with at least one in every state. Approximately 100 charge an entrance fee, with costs ranging from $5 to $35. The other 300-plus national parks do not have entrance fees.
Earlier this year orders were signed granting veterans, Gold Star Families and fifth graders free access to all national parks, wildlife refuges and other Federal lands managed by the Department of the Interior. Veterans and Gold Star Families will have free access forever, while fifth grade students were granted the reprieve through this academic year.
Active duty military and fourth grade students will continue to have free access with discounted passes also available for senior citizens. For other visitors who love visiting public lands, the annual $80 America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass is a great option.
