Welcome To TAG!
I’m really excited.
The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council is developing a new art space in the former City Garage building. It is located at the corner of West Perry and Harrison streets in downtown Port Clinton. The council hopes to open The Arts Garage – called TAG for short – next year. Even though the building won’t be finished, some classes and workshops are planned for this summer.
The 9,000 square foot building was built in 1935. A diverse committee of hardworking, experienced, and creative community members have preliminary plans for the renovations. They’re pursuing grants and working on fundraising.
This is going to be cool. Creativity is like a spiral. Some situations, or places, are more conducive to creativity. They attract people, and those people will come up with new ideas that they will share with the other people at that location. That location – in this case, TAG – will become even more conducive to creativity.
One of my favorite things about the project is that the building will be used in so many ways – as studio space, as a gallery, for retail, for classes, as a performance center, and for events.
The types of art are unlimited as well. I’m involved with the arts council, so I am clearly promoting something that I want to see succeed. During the meetings, the ideas just keep bubbling – the possibilities include exploring culinary arts, fashion, ceramics, sculpture, theater, digital art, and even graffiti.
Art is for everyone. Art is local. Art should be shared. Art is meant to challenge us. Imagine a space where experienced artists mentor inexperienced artists and everyone benefits. Sometimes people work together to make situations, or places, that are conducive to creativity.

The arts council will hold the Arts & Crafts Festival in a new location this year. Water Works Park will be the site of the June 12 art fair, which is an annual favorite.
The GPCAAC ARTWalk events are back! Check the events calendar for dates. Local artists will be stationed in several areas in the downtown area of Port Clinton on the second and fourth Thursday evenings, May through August.
