Home For The Holidays
There’s no place like home for the hol- idays – especially when it comes to shop- ping!
Since 2010, local businesses have ben- efited from Small Business Saturday, a “hol- iday” held the Saturday after Thanksgiving (and sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday).
In our area, communities are celebrating the diversity and uniqueness of their local- ly-owned brick-and-mortar stores.
On Saturday, Dec. 2, Port Clinton’s Com- munity Christmas Celebration features activ- ities and specials at downtown businesses, plus visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, in the afternoon. The finale
is a lighted Christmas parade and the light- ing of the community tree.

is the evening to ex-
plore local shops in
both Sandusky and
Vermilion. Some
downtown Sandusky
businesses will par-
ticipate in a “cook-
ie walk,” which
runs from 4 to 8
p.m. Shopping and cookies – who could resist? The Light Up Vermilion event
runs from 6 to 8 p.m.
Shop owners in Marblehead will host the “Village Lights” event on Saturday, Dec. 9.
Last year, I did a lot of my shopping at local stores. My friends and co-workers loved
the handmade Christmas or- naments I gave them. As much as I liked that part of the experi-
ence, I enjoyed the conversations with the people I saw in the stores even more.
I made memories that can’t be matched by online shopping alone in my home.
