“A Diamond in the Rough” Schedel Arboretum and Gardens
Just outside the quaint village of Elmore lies the legacy of Joseph and Marie Schedel, who spent a lifetime sharing their love of nature and the arts with the public. Their estate, consisting of over 17 acres of gardens, nature, and the McAlear Art Gallery, is one of the hidden cultural treasures of Ohio’s north coast: Schedel Aboretum and Gardens.

trees, bald cypress and tropical plants. Find peace in the beauty of the 30-foot waterfall and the serenity of two lakes that harbor local wildlife. Art enthusiasts will be impressed by the 1800’s Manor House and its collections of archaic bronze, carved jade, Persian rugs and numerous antiques. The McAlear Gallery is a dramatic venue for regional and international artists and has hosted exhibits from India, calligraphy from Japanese masters, Cheryl Hardy’s photography and Robert Mazur’s impressionistic works.
This summer Schedel will host a variety of fun cultural events including painting and wine workshops, sushi and wine and beer pairings, garden yoga, a unique pig roast with wine and Motown event, and a music and arts festival. More info at: http://www.schedel- gardens.org/events/
