August 2015
“Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.” - William Shakespeare
During my teaching days, I always had mixed emotions regarding the month of August. August meant saying goodbye to the freedom of summer, with its spur-of– the-moment fun in the sun, the absence of an alarm clock, and relaxing weekday lunches with wine on the table. August also meant saying hello to a classroom that had been dismantled and closed up, the tradi- tional teacher in-service days, and finally, greeting students on the first day of the new school year. August meant the end of so much...and yet it meant the beginning of so much.
While summer along the lakeshore is slowing to a close, there still is so much to seeanddobeforethatfirstschoolbellrings. Savor a mid-day glass of chilled Chardonnay at one of the local wineries...go island-hop- ping one more time...dine al fresco...go ahead and have that ice cream cone. Read on to discover what’s happening culturally on the north coast, and create your own per- fect ending to a perfect summer!
