Coming September 17-20 - Lake Erie Arts and Film Festival
by JD Noll, Feature Writer
The inaugural season for the Lake Erie Arts and Film Festival at the Sandusky State Theatre promises to be packed with films, music, arts and ce- lebrities from near and far. The event runs Thursday, Septem- ber 17 to Sunday, September
20 with a Red Carpet Gala opening night.
The ambitious project was launched as the re- sult of a regional community and patron survey in 2014. Current State Theatre Executive Direc- tor, David Taylor had been the general manager of the Majestic Theatre in Dallas, Texas, home of the successful Dallas International Film Festival. Using his experience, the groundwork was cre-
ated.
The festival will feature professional, local and
aspiring talent, and expects to see a variety of films for adults, teens and children. There will be feature length and short films, documenta- ries, music videos and more. In May a panel of seven individuals began viewing and critiquing dozens of entries, based on the quality of content and sound, with hopes to release selected titles in mid August.
Citing three goals for the festival, Taylor said, “The first goal is to highlight local film makers and producers although there will also be repre- sentation from New York and Los Angeles. The availability of the area’s historic buildings, high- ways and farms as well as quaint and affordable locations present the area as an ideal filming des- tination.” Local film producers Peter Huston of Film Affects and Brad Bores of Brad Bores Films will be participating.
Whether you are an aspiring actor, produc- er or simply curious, “the second goal, states Taylor,

Award winning author/producer Karen Leigh Hopkins will lead a script writing work- shop, and former Sandusky native, Brandy Burre, known as TV actress Theresa D’Agostino in The Wire, will teach an acting workshop for all ages. Shooting aerial scenes from an airplane along with all the necessary FAA compliance regula- tions will be taught, too.
Finally, “the third goal is to provide commu- nal experiences,” Taylor emphasizes. Already 20 countries have submitted entries. There will be local bands and visual arts along with a screen- writing competition. A workshop on film distri- bution will be taught by Cody Knotts, executive producer of this summer’s film, Gore Orphanage.
