Meet Our Readers
Randy Simmons, Sandusky, Ohio
By Joseph Gilroy, Feature Writer
You could say that it is just in her blood...
Volunteering came natural to Randy Simmons — it was handed down to her from her grandmother and she has run with it.
Randy is the Lead Volunteer for the Sandusky State Theatre in downtown Sandusky. In her 19 years as a volunteer she has performed about every task that you could imagine possible in the day-to-day operations of the theatre.
“I can remember my grandmother bringing me along with her for the many different charitable causes that she was involved in,” Simmons said. “I was her sidekick and followed her everywhere and really enjoyed helping out anyway I could.
“When my own children and grandchildren were grown and had moved away, I decided that it was time to find something to do with myself,” she continued. “I didn’t really know what I was going to do, but I knew that I enjoyed talking to people and making new friends. Something led me to the theatre and 19 years later I could not be happier that I chose to volunteer for them.”
Simmons wants the public to know that there is something for everyone at the theatre. Whether you are young or old, a patron or a volunteer there is an opportunity to have a great time.
The events this year range from the Oak Ridge Boys to the Annual Gala Fundraiser in November and they are rolling out a movie night pass in the 1,500 seat State Theatre. There will also be an Oktoberfest as well as Dance Recitals and more.
For more information about volunteering call the theatre at 419.626.1950.
