Get Hooked On The Fishing
& Outdoor Fest In Fremont
By Joseph Gilroy, Feature Writer
Each year across the country there are thou- sands of festivals taking place in small towns, celebrating what makes them unique. We have all heard of the Oak Harbor Apple
Festival, the Milan Melon Festival
and even Avon’s Duct Tape festi-
val but have you heard about the
Fremont Fishing and Outdoor Fest?
The Sandusky County Convention
& Visitor’s Bureau (SCCVB) thinks
that they have uncovered the festival
that will add them to the truly unique category while celebrating and recognizing the annual spring Walleye and White Bass fishing phenomenon that draws thousands of fishermen to the Sandusky River in Fremont.
On May 18th the SCCVB will be holding their 3rd Annual Fremont Fishing & Outdoor Festival, on Front Street in downtown Fremont, Ohio. Long known as “the white bass and walleye capital of the Great Lakes,” Fremont plans to build upon their first two highly successful events.
While it is a given that the event will draw fishermen trading whopper stories about how the big one got away, the planning committee has con- tinued to add more events with broader appeal. Returning displays are the fishing, ATV, camping equipment, camper dealers, gem stone mining, live family friendly music acts, and the archery trailer being offered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. New for 2019 is the walk- through “Bird Adventure”, by Jungle Island Zoo and Pony rides. There will also be various vendors ranging from jewelry and clothing to fishing gear.
This year the Outdoor Festival will have animals courtesy of the Sandusky County Park District and back by popular demand will be the 2,500 gallon “Hawg Trough” fish tank semi-truck. The tank is fully stocked with game fish and festival goers will have the opportunity to watch as the popular bass pro fisherman, Michael Simonton demonstrates various fishing techniques as well as how to suc- cessfully use lures.
Finally, there will be plenty to do for the young-
sters in your group. Perhaps the most popular of which will be the popular minnow races of year’s past. Big and small kids alike get a kick out of watching the minnow races that will have your party laughing out loud. Matrix Gemstone Mining was a big hit last year and will be back with a chance
to sift for rare gemstone.
The event begins at 9:00 a.m.
and winds down at 3:00 p.m. Crown Battery of Fremont is the premier spon- sor, with several other supporting spon- sors. For information go to SanduskyCounty.org. Join the fun on Saturday, May 18. Do yourself and your family a favor and visit the SCCVB and their 3rd Annual Fremont Fishing and Outdoor Festival. You may wind up with a new annual fam-
ily tradition!
