Project Lifesaver Serves Both Adults And Youths
A program in Ottawa County serves both adults and youths who are at risk for wandering or getting separated from caregivers or loved ones.
Project Lifesaver is a collaboration between the Ottawa County Sheriff, Port Clinton Lions Club, Ottawa County Senior Resources, Ottawa County Board of DD, Magruder Hospital and Life Flight. A member will complete an assessment with information on the individual that is registered with the Sheriff’s office. Participants receive a radio transmitter for wrist or ankle. If the individual becomes separated or goes missing, the family or caregiver calls 911 and the Sheriff’s office (as well as Life Flight if needed) uses a radio receiver device to find them by land or air.
Although the wristbands cost around $200, the only charge for the program is a $10 monthly fee for battery checks and changes which ar done by the Sheriff’s office. No one is turned away if they cannot afford the $10 fee.
