The Friends is an all-volunteer organization. Thanks to grants and fundraisers, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been dedicated to totally renovating the lighthouse and maintain- ing it. On June 30, 2017 the Foundation and community celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Lorain Lighthouse and an Ohio Historical Marker was dedicated to commemorate the occasion. The public can support the project by becoming a member of the Friends of the Lighthouse. A membership perk is a free tour of the Jewel of the Port ®. “The lighthouse interior is furnished as it was in the 1950s’ when it was manned by the U.S. Coast Guard,” Sipkovsky said.
8. Only 18 reservations are accepted for each din- ner. The cost of $130 per person includes the boat trip, tour, catered dinner (with wine pairings) and one of the most beautiful sunsets on Lake Erie. Advance reservations are required by phoning 440-984-1012.
The lighthouse is not accessible by land, so visitors check in at the Transit Dock A at Oasis Marina and then board tour boats (operated by the Lorain Port Authority). After a short boat ride, visitors dock at the lighthouse and volunteer guides conduct a tour throughout the lighthouse. (Note: the lighthouse is not handicap accessible.)

Today, they hold tours, Sunset Wine Dinners and other special events, and operate a gift shop at the lighthouse.
Tours of the lighthouse are scheduled to begin July 3 this year and go through October. Tours will be held July 3, 11 & 18; August 2, 5, 15, 22 & 29; September 6, 12 & 30; and October 10. Cost is $20 per per- son and the proceeds go toward the lighthouse restoration and maintenance fund. Reservations are recommended. Tickets are available on PeekPro.
