the family. Ed Curilla was instrumental in the formation of the Chamber in 1980. Cindy began involvement with the Chamber at the beginning of her business career, again after her 3 children grew older, and resumed in 2014, volunteering as board Secretary and Treasurer. She also played a vital role in restoring the once-bankrupt Chamber’s financial health, helping to facilitating raffles for key Chamber events like Island Fest, coordinating advertising opportunities, and also teamed with other volunteers to help set up and maintain the Chamber’s office at Seaway Marina. At present, Cindy serves as bookkeeper and remains a close advisor to the Chamber’s Director, board, and support staff.
Ed served as President for 2 terms. He can be credited with helping to build the Chamber’s current website and setting up countless systems and processes used by office staff - the phone’s voicemail system, PayPal donations, and email marketing to name a few. He also formalized the Chamber’s meetings and procedures, ensur- ing that the organization’s bylaws were consid- ered and implemented with every decision. Ed’s calm, diplomatic style also helped the Chamber to improve both community and business relations on the island. Membership in the organization has reached new heights.
These two individuals are shining examples of what can happen when one chooses to unself- ishly donate their time, heart, and great ideas to an organization. Their legacy will be felt for years to come, as the Chamber now capitalizes on their strong foundation of hard work and dedication.

Moving to the area two years ago from North Carolina to be closer to family, Dave and his wife continue to enjoy learning about their new city. Born and raised in Erie, Pa. he is no stranger to Lake Erie history and the Brig Niagara’s home port. As a youngster he visited the ship many times when it was dry docked on Erie’s bay front shore.
His interest in history and love of model ship building led him to the Sandusky Maritime Museum where he is a weekly docent stationed at the “model dock”. Even though he is a new volun- teer, he says the super
