“My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?”
~ Bob Hope
The spirit of Christmas has permeated the Roth household since late spring, in the form of two precious, small bundles of love and joy. Our first grandchild, Abigail Elizabeth, was born March 26 and stole our hearts the moment we held her. In late October we ad- opted a 12 week old Black Lab pup, Gracie, who loves exuberantly and unconditionally every single day. Abbie and Gracie, in all of their innocence, portray love in its pur- est form, and remind us that loving others is simple if our hearts are wide open. As we move into the holiday season and the New Year, may all of you give and receive the gift of “year-round” love.
Cozy and Close Holiday Shopping
Put money in your neighbors’ pockets by shopping locally on Small Business Satur- day, November 28. Stores in our lakeshore
communities will be decked out for the holidays and will beckon shoppers with their endear- ing character and charm. Imagine surprising a loved one with a unique, one-of-a-kind gift from a local art gallery, bookstore, winery or quaint gift shop. Many shoppers will start this fun day with break- fast at the town diner, and after a morning of gift-buying, will re-charge with a leisurely lunch at a favorite lakeshore restaurant. Shop-
ping continues into the evening, when local eateries beckon with drinks and relaxing dinners. What a great way to enjoy a quality shopping experience while supporting our local businesses! See you out and about on Small Business Saturday, November 28!
That’s Entertainment!
Folks along the lakeshore will not want for cultural experiences this holiday season and the coming winter. From Toledo to Cleve- land and all communities in between, there is something for everyone in the genres of theatre, music, art, film and more. Christmas classics performed by the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Terra Choral Society and the To- ledo Symphony will surely put everyone in the Christmas spirit straight away. Playhouse Square offers a number of holiday plays and concerts. Closer to home, Vermilion Art Guild will sponsor a holiday art show and Sandusky will host its Christmas lighting cer- emony in Washington Park. Don’t miss Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” at Sandusky State Theatre...and ring in the New Year early at the Merry-Go-Round Museum in Sandusky and later visit the Walleye Drop in Port Clin- ton.
Culture continues to thrive after the hol- idays, as “Tuesdays with Morrie” opens in mid-January at Playmakers Civic Theatre. Janet Jackson makes a comeback at Quick- en Loans Arena in early February. For those seeking a performer who is a little more sub- dued, Jim Brickman will fit the bill on Valen- tine’s Day weekend at the Stranahan Theatre. Add a mix of area winter festivals, I-X Center events, jazz and cabaret...and enjoy!!
