Dear Andrew,
I’ve noticed how you enjoy looking through my jewelry box. It’s fun, isn’t it? I did the same at MY grandma’s house. Lots of grandmas have similar boxes of memories, whether joyous or bittersweet. Here are just three of the stories you’ve held in your curious 9-year-old hands.
Your great-great grandma Ada wasn’t given an engagement ring, so she saved money from sewing and babysitting to buy one. The beautiful diamond ring cost $75, quite a lot of money in 1917! When she passed away, it was given to your great-grandma Ruth, Ada’s only daughter. When Ruth knew she was near the end of her life, she wrote down the items she wanted various family members to have; and to my surprise, she wanted me to have this special ring!
The day of Ruth’s funeral, there was a plan. When the church bells started to ring across town, the funeral director would shoo everyone from the room except your Grandpa, myself, and your mom and dad, who were newly married. We’d say our goodbyes, Brad would
