Sweltering summer temps have given way to crisp, cool fall weather along Lake Erie’s shore with an abundance of fall festivals and events.
There’s nothing better than the intoxicat- ing fragrance of vineyards ripe with this year’s harvest, ready for pressing and jelly making. Or, try visiting the many apple orchards offer- ing baskets of sweet deliciousness.
Soon Oktoberfest will be celebrated in a number of lake front communities. The ac- cordion and om pah bands herald rolling out the beer barrels, brats and polkas. Ferry over to the islands for final “all out” festivities or take a day trip to any number of area loca-
tions, celebrating the season.
Halloween gets bigger every year with
shops and residents going wild with every- thing orange and black; pumpkins and scare- crows. After all, no house is complete with- out a scattering of cornstalks, pumpkins and gourds. Check out the many area farm mar- kets for all your autumn fruits and vegetables. How about having fun and getting creative by making silly scare crows to wow your grand- children and neighbors?
Let us not forget Thanksgiving a reminder to give thanks for all blessings large and small that have been bestowed upon us: bountiful harvests, beautiful family and friends and, most of all, living free.
