Meet Our Readers
Barb Drusbacky, Port Clinton
By Sharon Sweda
Port Clinton is known for its charm and appeal which attracts a constant stream of visitors each year. Local residents know that the resort area is also built upon a foundation of many natives who have spent a lifetime in the community.
Barb Drusbacky, retired teacher and lifelong resident is one such person. Barb was born and raised in Port Clinton then returned home after college to marry and raise a son.
“I remember my very first class as a teacher of seventh and eighth graders at Danbury; as well, the first two classes I taught at EHOVE once I returned to fulltime teaching after a time of subbing and tutoring for a few years between. I remember every student in those classes. I know where they sat and remember each of their names,” Barb reminisced.
“I think my strong recollection stems from the fact that those were my first classes and they made a lasting impression upon me,” she added.
The Drusbacky’s were married eleven years before being blessed with a son. Local sports have played a big part in their lives. Don Drusbacky was both a basketball and football coach for most of their married years. Drusbacky initially coached football prior to adding basketball, which he continues to coach.
“Before having our son, I would carpool my nephews to their sporting events since Don was always busy with his coaching responsibilities. Once our son was born, he chose soccer over football but did play
on the basketball team when his father was an assistant coach,” Barb mused.
