Short Film On RFK’s Funeral Train
A film about the Robert F. Kennedy fu- neral train that traveled in 1968 from New York to Washington, D.C., will be shown this fall at the American Presidents Film & Literary Festi- val.
“The Robert F. Ken- nedy Train – The Peo- ple’s View,” directed by Rein Jelle Terpstra, is a one of the short films that will be featured at the festival Friday, Oct. 4 – Sunday, Oct. 6, at various locations in Fre- mont.
A schedule of show
times and tickets will be available at americanpres- identsfilmfestival.org.
“The Robert F. Ken- nedy Train” is based on memories, snapshots, home movies and sound, recorded by bystanders along the railroad tracks, on June 8, 1968, as Kenne- dy’s funeral train chugged along.
Aboard the train was photographer Paul Fusco, who during the journey photographed the many bewildered mourners pay- ing their final respects. A cross-section of American society - black and white,
city-dwellers and coun- try folk - all stared at the slowly passing train, which itself stayed mostly outside Fusco’s lens.
This film will be shown during the short film block throughout the weekend at The Strand Concert The- ater in downtown Fremont. The block will include five other short films with run times ranging from 7 and a half minutes to 28 minutes.
Each of the films se- lected for this festival have some connection to the American presidency and touch in some way, directly or loosely, on the themes of
people, places, politics and power.
Awards will be given for the best feature-length film, best short film, best production and people’s choice. Attendees can vote for their favorite film through the people’s choice contest. Ballot boxes will be located at each theater.
The American Pres- idents Film & Literary Festival is the only film and literary festival in the United States to focus on the American presidency. It will take place at The Strand Concert Theater, Fremont Middle School, the
