Though the COVID-19 pandemic had an impact, busi- ness owners are optimistic that this year will be better with the easing of some of the health re- strictions.
Dave Bier is the owner or co-owner of three restau- rants in downtown Sandusky: Daly’s Pub, the Shore House Restaurant and the Landmark Kitchen & Bar. He and his wife Lainie are lifelong Sandusky residents and opened their first business downtown in 1995.
He said the City is doing a fantastic job at leading the re- vitalization efforts. “There is a lot going on and lots of positive things here,” he said.
With the introduction of a
downtown hotel, and the opening of the Jackson Street Pier, visitors have lots of opportunities to stay downtown and enjoy the vibrant restaurants, shops and activities, he said. “The restaurant scene is great,” he added. “You can grab a steak, sushi, pizza. It’s all available downtown.”
Jim Erwin and Dick Ries are the co-owners of Sandusky Segwave, which offers guided tours of the City of Sandusky on Segways. They have been operating their busi- ness, which is located in the State Theater build- ing, since 2017. They said
they are very optimistic about the year ahead.
Erwin said that the strength and charm of Sandusky lies in its lo- cally-owned businesses. “Our strength is that we are not ‘franchised.’ We have unique and local businesses like a unique sandwich shop, an ur- ban market and even apartmentsinthearea,” he added.
Dick Ries added, “The variety of different experiences people can partake in is wonderful with restaurants, galler- ies, parks and museums. ”Visitors can also enjoy the lake by taking a boat ride on the Jet Express to Cedar Point and the Islands,” he added.
The Jackson Street Pier, which was renovat- ed and opened in 2020 attracts people who en- joy just relaxing and those who enjoy fishing, Ries said.
The Mylander Pavil- ion on the Pier can host events for just under 100 people indoors and can be expanded into the outdoor plaza area to ac- commodate more people.
This year, the Pier will be the scene of two free outdoor concerts
