Antiques Fest, annually on the second Sunday of July – this year it will fall on the Sunday after Independence Day, July 8, rain or shine.
Thanks to the event’s sponsor, the Village of Milan Chamber of Commerce, admission will once again be free. There will be no charge to park and they will be offering horse drawn carriage rides around town.
Starting at 8 a.m. there will be over 50 antiques deal- ers from near and far lining the village square. Arrive ear- ly before the heat of the day and look at all the items on display. There will be vintage items, golden oldie’s records, porcelains, clothing, jewelry, toys, old Barbie fashion dolls, folk art, and so much more.
“I have been an antiques dealer for 45 years and Mi- lan is just an awesome venue to hold something like this and that is why we come back year after year,” festival organizer Pam Crosby said. “There will be something for every type of collector, from primitive to mid-century and beyond. Also, we want to just thank the Chamber of Com- merce for being so good to us. Because of them we have been able to do this for 25 years now.”
The Mid-Summer Antiques Fest is held on the Village Square in Milan.
Milan Drive-Thru offers 26 flavors of Toft’s ice cream and an assortment of deli and other snacks and beverages. Of course, the local favorite restaurants such as Invention Restaurant will be open for business with regular hours, all year ‘round.

Don’t forget to shop at Milan’s permanent antiques shops Crosby Antiques (4 N. Main St.), Sights and Sounds of Edison (21 S. Main St.), and Milan Inn-tiques (29 Church St.). Each shop has a huge selection of items ranging from the life and times of Thomas Edison to old farm equipment and a little of everything in between. You never know what treasure you will uncover at any of these long-time dealers.
Before calling it a day, be sure to take the time to stop by Edison’s birthplace and tour the house he spent his ear- ly life in. The home has been turned into a museum and gift shop and is well worth the small admission fee.
You’ll find more history with a stop at the Milan Muse- um. Check out the new Galpin Glass Galleries. You can ex- plore European and American glass from the earliest piece in the collection of Roman glass through works of contem- porary, local artists. The Folk and Decorative Galleries showcase examples of early American Folk and Decorative Arts. They have also added a temporary exhibit Recycled Runway and it will run through August 31.
If you are looking for a gift for somebody who prefers something made this century, Milan’s D’vine Design is your best bet. They have something for everyone at a price we can all afford and if the spouse you brought along with you is on good behavior and you want to reward him, then schedule one of many fishing charter options offered by Capt.
