Passionate about Lake Erie, May who was born and raised in the Sandusky area, was a natural to re- turn home after a 24 year careerintheMarineCorps, and a six year teaching stint. On the Sandusky Maritime Association’s Board of Trustees for five years, May was appointed recently to the position of Executive Director. He’s excited to share his love of the area with others and gives credit to his volun- teers and the people he encounters daily as well as the museum’s strategic partners like Shores and Islands and the railroad.
Admission fees to any museum are not enough to sustain it, so other ac- tivities are necessary. For the 15th year, the muse- um’s annual fundraiser the “BigSplashRaffle”willbe held on August 16 and 17. Raising nearly 60% of the museum’s revenue for oper-
ating expenses, educational programs, summer camps, and more, only 5000 raf- fle tickets are available for the $250,000 in cash and prizes like four cars, two motorcycles and an ATV 4 wheeler. Although you don’t have to be present to win, ticket holders can dou- ble their cash winnings by being present during two drawings on Friday and one during the day on Sat- urday. There will also be an early bird drawing at the museum on July 4th at 3:00 pm. Twenty num- bers will be called to win $500 prizes! Don’t miss this year’s raffle to support our local Maritime Museum. Tickets are $100 each at the museum and other area locations.
