OHIO LIGHTHOUSES...
South Bass Island Light, Put-in-Bay, Ohio
The South Bass Island lighthouse was established in 1897. In 1962, the Coast Guard constructed a steel skeleton tower for a functioning lighthouse, and sold the original lighthouse to Ohio State University.
The optic has been removed from the original 60 ft. high, 100 year old tower.
All of this lighthouse and it's keeper's quarters are currently owned by the Ohio State University. They function as a research facility, and are not open to the public.
This red-brick framed structure is in excellent condition, and warrants a look-see from a distance, even though on private property.
