New Website Helps Ohioans To “Live Smart”
Ohioans who want to “live smart” have a new resource, courtesy of
Ohio State Universi-
ty Extension.
The Live Smart Ohio website, online at go.osu.edu/LiveSm- artOhio, offers con- sumers research-based information on topics they care about, said site organizers.
“It’s a way for Ohioans
to live smart, whether it’s
through learning more
about food, about mon-
ey, about family and relation-
ships, or about mind and body,” said
Carmen Irving, Healthy Relationships pro-
gram specialist for OSU Extension. “They can get content on all of those topics at their fingertips in a beautiful, interactive setting.”
The new site draws information from other blogs previously written by Extension’s Family and Consumer Sciences professionals, including Live Healthy Live Well and Safe Food for Your Family.
In addition to blog posts, the site will house OSU Extension fact sheets, videos, photos and webinars. After a user clicks on a topic area, the additional information is listed on the right side of the page. Organizers will continue to add these resources as they’re updated or developed, Irving said.
“We think of Live Smart Ohio as more of a content hub than new website,” Irving said. “It makes it easier for consumers to find, learn and share information on topics
they want to follow.”
Karen Bruns, assistant di-
rector of OSU Extension in charge of the Family and Consumer Sciences program area, said she’s excited about
the new resource.
“Today’s families are
busy,” Bruns said. “The web is a great resource, but not all the information that’s online is accurate. We want to support Ohioans by providing a practical and re- liable source of information that is based on the
latest research.”
The site was also designed to be mobile-friend-
ly, so users can view it on their desktop, tablet or phone, Irving said. A search feature allows easy ac- cess to specific information.
Organizers of the site include Irving; Bridgette Kidd, Extension’s Healthy People program special- ist; Betsy DeMatteo, Healthy Finances program specialist; and Jamie Seger, interim Educational Technology specialist for Extension’s Family and Consumer Sciences program area.
