Curious About Your Memory?

Memory screening is a safe and unpreten- tious evaluation tool that checks your memory and thinking skills. It can provide a recom- mendation to follow-up with a health care pro- fessional or provide a benchmark score for a future comparison. These private screenings are face-to-face and results are confidential. Several screening tools are approved by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA). They include the GPCOG (General Practitioner Assessment of Cognition), MINI-COG, MIS (Memory Impairment Screen) and BAS (Brief Alzheimer’s Screening). These tools meet the accepted cri- teria by the Memory Screening Advisory Board and are validated by research.
The National Memory Screening Program is available and appropriate for anyone concerned or curious about their memory and thinking skills. Have family or friends noticed a change in
your behavior, mood or desire to do things? Do you have a history of Alzheimer’s disease in your family? Even if you are not concerned, a screen- ing can be very enlightening and provide a good comparison for future memory screening tests. The National Memory Screening initiative pro- vides local testing sites in Fremont and Swanton, OH. In Fremont the Sandusky Co. YMCA provides monthly testing at 1000 North St. and the Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center (www.swantonhealthcare.com) offers screening every third Tuesday of the month from 2-4pm.
The Alzheimer’s Reading Room has sup- ported several memory tests available online and these tools are free to the public. They recom- mend the SAGE (Self-administered Geocognitive Examination) test provided by The Ohio State University. It is a 15 minute quiz that is used for
