In 2004, “The Dinky” Pub and Grille was add- ed to offer liquor, beer and wine service. “The Dinky is named after the urban transit line that used to run through Norwalk,” Doug explained. “We thought that would be an appropriate name.” In 2011, an outside patio with a tent and a water fountain feature was added. “This building was the historic building
of the St. Charles
Hotel. That’s why
we named it that.”
The St. Charles
Hotel, was built
in the heyday of
railroad travel in
1867 just after the
Civil War.
The same menu
is offered in
all three areas.
It’s a comfort
food type of
menu with spe-
cials that run
from Monday
through Satur-
day. The spe-
cials include
favorites that
have been the
specials for
decades and a varied list of new, fresh and popular en- trees and sandwiches. New favorites include fresh crust- ed salmon, cranberry orange chicken, parmesan shrimp and a BBQ Cuban wrap. “Our variety of fresh meats, seafood and vegetables is well accepted and it is a great fit with our traditional menu classics,” Doug said.
Along with striving for great
food, the staff goes out of their way to make sure everyone is happy. “We still have seating at the counter for dining, because people like

that.” Spacious booths and table seating is also available. One of the things that regulars re- member from days gone by is that either Doug’s father or uncle was always at the cash register by the door. “They were always the first ones to greet you and make you feel welcome, and they were always the last one you saw on the way out to make sure you had a good experience and thank you for coming,” Doug says. “We still do that. We want to make sure that our customers know how much we appreciate them.”
