It’s Fun To Be Local!
The holidays are over, and so is (I hope) the worst of the winter weather.
Here we are, at a point in the year that can bring some unexpected good times. Lo- cal businesses are gearing up for “the sea- son,” which means there is more to do – and the vacationing crowds are not yet here. It’s fun to be a local!
The Miller Ferry to Put-in-Bay is sched- uled to begin running in March (weather per- mitting, of course). Get ready for some ear- ly-season events like the April Whiskey Light Celebration on Put-in-Bay and the Early Bird Party, Spring Wine Fling, and Earth Day Bio Blitz on Kelleys Island.
The Wednesday jazz nights at Slater’s Madison Street Pub in Port Clinton are back. The Mike Lorenz Trio performs, featuring vari- ous artists throughout the year. The musicians come from Toledo and Cleveland, and some- times even further. Once in a while, a local musician will join the band. Enjoy a glass of wine and the pasta specials!
Springtime makes me think of gardening, so of course I’m looking forward to the April
13 and 14 Faery Festival at Mulberry Creek Herb farm. The event features miniature gar- den demonstrations, food trucks, and chil- dren’s activities. I refer to that place as one of my “magical wonderlands” – I’ve spent many happy hours there. The owners give great advice, so a not-completely-competent gardener like me will have a greater chance of not killing what I buy.
The Oak Ridge Boys will perform at the Sandusky State Theatre in early April. I bet that will be an amazing show!
