Chef In The Spotlight Byron McMorris,
Chef At Port Clinton’s Pub 221

It is nearing the dinner hour, and the Port Clinton area is being pummeled by an icy February rain driven horizontally by 35 mph gusts of a relentless, unforgiving west wind. It is barreling across the frozen lake. Despite the fact that it has become such a hellish night, my husband and I have gone ahead with our plans to grab dinner out and watch the Purdue Boilermakers play the Maryland Terrapins. We head into town, find a parking spot close to the Madison Street eater- ies, and duck into Pub 221. Shaking
off the rain, we enter a cozy den of casual dining, multiple flat screens, an inviting bar and a menu overflowing with comfort food and BBQ. Mouth- watering aromas emanating from the kitchen leave no doubt that someone is back there cooking from scratch. Ah yes...this...this indeed, is what we were looking for.
Just after Purdue tips off, we are savoring deliciously healthy collard green eggrolls, tender and juicy pulled
pork with a BBQ sauce that tastes like a trip to Kansas City, fresh old-fashioned slaw, lusciously creamy mac and cheese, and chicken wings done right. Our taste buds immediately realize that they are in good hands here at Pub 221, and those hands belong to life-long Chef Byron McMorris.
