Help Return The Nickel Plate Steam Locomotive #757
How many folks have taken the time to wonder what the cost to move a retired steam locomotive is per mile? The members of the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum have calculated that cost and embarked on a monumental campaign to raise the funds. Their goal is to bring the steam locomotive #757 to their museum site in Bellevue, Ohio.
From 1944 to 1958 the locomotive #757 hauled America’s freight in and out of the busy Nickel Plate Terminal in Bellevue. This important artifact of railroad heritage escaped the torch and became part of the premier collection at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in 1966. In an exceptional display of responsible stewardship and generosity, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania agreed to allow the 757 to return to Bellevue with the intent to transfer ownership to the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum upon removal from their site.
This is an exciting opportunity to finally have an historically significant steam locomotive as part of Mad River’s collection.
A campaign has been set up to cover the expense of relocating the #757 steam locomotive. Your donation can help. Please visit www.bringback757.org to learn more and to donate.
FSO’s School Of The Arts Moves To BGSU Firelands
In a new partnership, the Firelands Symphony Orchestra’s School of the Arts and administrative offices will relocate to a renovated space in George Mylander Hall on the BGSU Firelands campus. The space will include six state-of-the-art sound rooms which will allow for the expansion of music education, instrument and voice lessons as well as master classes.
The decision to move to BGSU Firelands comes after almost two years of evaluating a variety of locations in the area. In partnership with the college, the Orchestra will be in a unique position to expand its community engagement to all Firelands area residents. “Our new home at BGSU Firelands will provide a terrific space to offer music lessons, and will also help increase awareness of the educational opportunities available at BGSU Firelands,” said the Orchestra’s executive director, Laurie Korobkin.
BGSU Firelands is an ideal environment to combine community event performances with music education for people of all ages. According to Andrew Kurtz, dean of BGSU Firelands, “The Orchestra’s presence provides an exciting opportunity to enrich the college’s academic portfolio while engaging the community with best-in-class ensemble performances to be held on campus throughout the year.”
The relocation to BGSU Firelands is a long-term investment. The Orchestra’s board of directors was unanimous in its decision to invest in this endeavor. All costs associated with the move will be the sole responsibility of the Orchestra, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
