Now, and especially since the pandemic began, most of their sales are done on the internet. However, people who come to Milan to visit the Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum also enjoy visiting their shop to see the horns, phonographs and other antiques that they sell.
To help keep the memory of Edison alive, Gfell has been active as a board member with several local organizations including the Milan Historical Society, Milan Historical Museum and the Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum.
Gfell said that his fascination for Edison has enabled him to have a satisfying career and hobby. “As Edison said, ‘I never did a day’s work in my life, I enjoyed every minute of it,’” he concluded.
The Sights & Sounds of Edison is located at 21 South Main St. and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
