Edgewood Manor Opens New Memory Care Unit
Edgewood Manor Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, a skilled nursing facility in Port Clinton, recently opened a 25-bed, dedicated unit for the treatment of people with memory care needs.
The specialty
treatment unit, named
Harbor Village at
Edgewood Manor, was
developed for those
with memory challenges
including Alzheimer’s
disease, dementia, stroke
recovery and more. All
rooms in the unit are
private, and Harbor
Village has its own dining room, lounge, specially trained care staff, and more.
“People with memory care challenges require a compassionate, dedicated approach that is unique in the skilled nursing field,” said Frank Swinehart, executive director of Edgewood Manor. “We focus on both physical and emotional wellbeing through a highly trained team of caregivers. We cannot wait to enhance the lives of those in need of memory care.”
Something that sets the Harbor Village at Edgewood Manor care team apart is the qualifications, education, training, and expertise of its staff. Swinehart and Edgewood Manor’s Director of Social Work, Lisa Moore, are both gerontologists. They are trained in accredited gerontology programs that study the social, cultural, psychological, cognitive, and biological aspects of aging.
Swinehart, after an earlier career in the respiratory therapy field, returned to school to earn his bachelor’s degree in gerontology from Lourdes University, and has been using that training for many years. Moore received her master’s degree in social work from The Ohio

State University, with a specialization in gerontology and the aging population. Since then, she has worked in long- term care, and has taught at the collegiate level, training those entering the healthcare field.
In addition, Dr. Alice Randolph, Psychologist, recently joined the team. She is the CEO of Psychological Transitions, Inc. and specializes in serving residents in long term care facilities. Dr. Randolph is a past President of the Ohio Psychological Association.
She has more than 30 years experience working with the geriatric population in a variety of settings. She has developed specialized programs, and staff training for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia related diagnoses.
The staff of the Harbor Village at Edgewood Manor unit will have the
opportunity to earn a
Montessori Dementia Care
Professional Certification,
which demonstrates an
innovative, top-level
approach to dementia care.
The goal of the Montessori
program is to support older
adults and people living Dr. Alice Randolph with dementia by creating
a prepared environment, filled with cues and memory supports, that enable individuals to care for themselves, others, and their community.
Edgewood Manor also has an in-house Medicaid specialist to assist families throughout the process of applying for Medicaid.
