Summer is well on its way to the lakeshore, and the city of Port Clinton
has stepped up in an innovative way
to help families step out to dine safely downtown. Think “al fresco”— picnic
tables, lights strung overhead and de-
licious carry-out— all in a blocked-off
portion of beautiful Madison Street.

Bank alley, restaurants on Madison are opening their doors and extending their
dining rooms outward, into the sunshine
and fresh lake breezes. In early May, Ni-
cole Kochensparger, Director of Main
Street Port Clinton, presented this con-
cept to the City and downtown business owners in hopes of encouraging folks to begin to dine out again in a safe and responsible way. After care- ful thought and positive discussions, the decision was made to move forward with the plan, named

Meals on Madison (M.O.M). “We chose the acro- nym M.O.M because we want people to think of this experience as if they are at their mom’s kitch- en table, and act accordingly,” explains Nicole.
At the forefront of M.O.M. is the goal of help- ing downtown restaurants and shops recover from months of COVID-19 restrictions. “I am so thankful that Main Street Port Clinton and the City are really stepping up for us,” offers restau- rateur Aimee Slater-West. “This not only bene- fits downtown businesses but it’s great for all who don’t have patio dining. Anyone can bring car- ry-out from anywhere and eat downtown.” She stresses that social distancing and sanitation are of utmost importance. “As excited as we all are to see each other, there are rules.”
