Hello ~
..... and summer is finally here! This edition of
Leisure Living Magazine was crafted with care by our talented staff for your enjoyment. Relax and enjoy.
Are you ready for some summer dining suggestions? Check our North Coast Summer Dining Guide on Pages 21-25. It features some of the best dining the area has to offer!
Our cover image this month is courtesy of our own area National Park, Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on South Bass Island. This flag raising ceremony was held on World Ranger Day 2018. That day, July 31, is a global observance honoring Rangers worldwide who have
died in the line of duty over the past 12 months. Flags from each country affected are flown on the Monument grounds.
The Summer Solstice will occur the weekend of June 21. If you are looking to celebrate it in a unique location with a fun group of people, see page 25 for Summer Solstice Soiree ticket details. The Soiree will be held June 22 at the Charles Herndon Galleries and Sculpture Gardens on Kelleys Island.
Have a fabulous 4th of July!

Elegance. Grace. Class. The violin is a timeless instrument which, when in the hands of a master, produces a seemingly limitless range of musical bliss. From beautiful, flowing melodies that take our breath away, to the energetic pitch and rhythm of bluegrass, to dazzling mixes of rock and classical sounds, the violin shines. And shine, it does, cradled in the arms of master violinist Alice Weiss of the esteemed Firelands Symphony Orchestra.
“I am the only original member of FSO”, says Alice. At age 68, she con- tinues to play second violin with the orchestra she has loved for over 36 years. “I hope to play as long as
I can!” she exclaims. “I love the orchestra and all of the great music we get to play”, adding “My favorite concerts are when we have guest artists that are so young! Chad Hoops played with us when he was little and now performs all over the world!”
A retired educator and BGSU grad, Alice taught strings at Sandusky City Schools for 36 years. She currently teaches Suzuki violin to students in her home. Along with three other FSO members, Alice shares her love of strings with the community through a string quartet business. “We have been together for many years and play at weddings, parties and other area events,” she explains.
When she isn’t enriching lives with music, Alice works out at the gym five days a week, hikes with her Golden Retriever Charlie, and spends time with her two sons Cody and Cameron in Las Vegas.
