Port Clinton’s New Streetscape
Enhances The Riverfront District
By JD Noll, Feature Writer
Port Clinton is a charming, lake front com- munity filled with independent retailers and restaurants, and nearly 6000 full time residents.
An active Chamber of Commerce and Main Street organization, encourages businesses to support each other while thriving on the activities and events that bring residents and visitors into
the easily walkable downtown.
In summer, the population of the picturesque city swells with seasonal residents.
A newly revitalized Madison Street added beautiful streetscaping, including benches and planter boxes maintained by Chamber/ Main Street volunteers. President and CEO, Nikki Ad- ams says, “Our office is a go to destination for area brochures and local information.” Working together, at their 110 Madison Street location, both groups promote the city.
A planned late-June reopening of the rebuilt Portage River Bridge will be another welcome ad- dition to downtown.
Strolling down Madison Street presents a va- riety of must see shops and eateries.
A purchase at Wide World Shoppe will change someone’s life with their fair trade mer- chandise from nine countries. Besides clothing and jewelry, Connie Brand says the shop carries home decorating items, food, olive oil, tea, coffee and soaps.
Find souvenirs, local books, personal care products and healing medical equipment while getting prescriptions filled at Green’s Pharmacy.
Snack on sweets from their old fashioned bulk candy department and browse an extensive
display of greeting cards.
Visit Unique for antiques, resale
merchandise, art and jewelry. Debbie Coppeler says her philosophy is “to find everyone’s treasures a second home.” With baby boomers downsizing, her shop is also the perfect place for consign- ment.
Mary’s Blossom Shop is your head- quarters to find fresh flowers and fine gifts. Born and raised on Catawba, Mary Gangway-Snyder says, “I’m embedded in the community. It’s where I belong.” The shop uses 40 different US suppliers for their gifts. Floral arrangements are de- signed creatively for local or out of town delivery.
