What Will The Summer of 2017 Be Remembered As?

Greetings everyone, finally we get a cold and wet spring behind us and look forward to our time around the Lake Erie Islands and Shorelines! The stock market weathered this spring better than most of us weathered with that mean east- erly breeze that didn’t want to relent. The market continued to reach higher and higher on word of health care reform and tax reform as well.
Looking at our geopolitical forces at play not only in Washington DC, but all over the world, peace and love don’t appear to be the dominant emotions at play. There are the obvious topics that grab the headlines the most like, North Ko- rea and so called Russian meddling into our elec- tions. Isn’t that what the Russians always do as well as us...I digress. South America has its own set of problems from runaway inflation in Vene- zuela to serious fiscal issues not coming to light in Brazil. Britain still must unwind its European Union ties this year and that has the potential to cause some ill will from the other European countries that may feel financially slighted by the United Kingdom. This is like reading a history book all over again am I right?
Here at home things were off to a good start until our politicians decided that tearing one an- other apart is better than rebuilding our crum- bling social programs and keeping America’s interest at the forefront of all treaties and poli- cies. Locally we have our Davis Besse’s future in jeopardy and that certain- ly has those workers and their families pulling the purse strings back since they are not sure what the future holds for those well paying jobs in our local market.
The summer of 2017 could be one of tax re- form and continued growth with an infrastruc- ture plan to rebuild America’s highways, airports, and power grid...on the other hand, these people we all have elected may choose to destroy one an- other by any means possible and our investment accounts may suffer the most.
Hold on, it is going to be an interesting ride!
