Tall Ships Pay Tribute To Sandusky Bicentennial

So...what is the allure of the
tall ships? The mystery, the lore, the
magic? What is it about them that takes our breath away as they majestically sail into view? The presence of tall ships at any event imbues the occasion with genuine awe, staggering beauty and historical significance. This year, as the City of Sandusky celebrates its bicentennial, a num- ber of tall ships will mark the grand occasion with a parade of sail on the opening day of the Festival of Sail Sandusky 2018. Among the tall ships to take part in this celebration are the U.S. Brig Niagara, the Schooner Madeline and the Schooner Appledore IV. Opportunities abound not only to view and board the ships during the festival, but also to set sail on these historic vessels.

tors who come from near and far to celebrate the Sandusky bicentennial. The rubber duck, a cre- ation of Dutchman Florentijn Hofman, is coming to bathe in Lake Erie, having traveled to the ports of multiple major cities around the world over the years, sharing her message of environmental con- servation. “Mama Duck,” for all her heft is fragile, however, and cannot withstand certain whims of nature. Catching a glimpse of her may be tricky if Mother Nature does not cooperate, but as of the moment, the rubber ducky is scheduled for her bath here in Sandusky from the 12th through the 15th of July.
It is impossible to list here the many excit- ing events planned for this bicentennial year in Sandusky, so please go to the official site for information on all events. Check out the website at Sandusky2018.com to learn more. Let’s cele- brate!
