Shop Small!
A few years ago, I returned home from a trip on the first Saturday in December.
I ran a couple of errands, and on
the way home I got stopped in
traffic in the most magical way
– the Port Clinton holiday pa-
rade was blocking my prog-
ress.
I put the car in park and
watched the lighted parade.
Area civic groups, representa-
tives from businesses, and indi-
viduals participated – I saw one of my friends dressed in costume, and his Great Dane dressed as an adorable elf. Santa, rid- ing on a fire truck, brought up the rear of the parade.
That was one of the moments that make me treasure living in this area. Sometimes when I prepare to write this column, I look through back issues. For this particular issue, the idea of shopping locally is a recurring theme – for a good reason.
If I want local shops to be there in the future, I have to make patronizing them now a priority. It happens to be a very fun priori- ty, especially during the annual holiday cel- ebrations. I’ve included the ones that I could find in the calendar listing,
and I’m sure there are many
more.
A Jewel Of Our Community
Last Spring, I was lucky enough to attend a concert of the Sandusky Choral Society. I am very much looking for- ward to their Christmas con- certs, which are scheduled for Nov. 30 at the First Unit-
ed Methodist Church in Norwalk and Dec. 2 at Grace Episcopal Church in Sandusky. This group is one of the jewels of our com- munity – people who are not only talented, but who also give their time and dedication to provide the rest of us with an exhilarat-
ing experience.
Ring In 2019
Ring in the New Year with glitz, glamour, and the Glen Miller AAF Band Tribute at the Liberty Aviation Museum. Put on your 1940s-era finest (civilian or military) and dance the night away to World War II favor- ites by the Tom Daugherty Orchestra and the Swingin’ Sweethearts Trio. Ticket price includes soft drinks, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a champagne toast at midnight, and party fa-
vors. A cash bar will be available.
Taste of the North Coast
While I love anticipating the holidays, I always dread the “blahs” that follow. The tim- ing of the Taste of the North Coast is perfect! Brighten your Jan. 31 by going to Kalahari Resort to sample food, beers, and wines from local businesses. Raffle prizes include a kitch- en makeover and a “staycation” package. The
event is sponsored by the Erie C o u n t y Chamber
of Com- merce. Bon
Appetit!
