The picturesque, lakefront com- munity of Vermilion is brimming with unique shops and restaurants in an easily walkable downtown.
On your visit your first stop should be the offices of Main Street Vermil- ion located on Main Street (Rt. 60) in a small building nestled by the downtown railroad tracks, where you can gather brochures and get friendly advice about the communi- ty. The Main Street office is part ar- tisan gallery, but mostly information central for this quaint town on the shore. In early summer, Shore Thing opens on the Main Street beach for grab and go snacks, ice cream nov- elties, small gifts and souvenirs and helpful information. It even has an accessible wheelchair with large tires for those in need who want to wiggle their toes in Lake Erie.

Across the street, satisfy your sweet tooth at Brummer’s, where delicious chocolatey scents greet you at the door. A huge selection of homemade chocolates, fudge and salt water taffy is available along with Polish pottery, gifts and kitchen accessories. Bob and Sandy Brum- mer have been in Vermilion for 27 years. “My grandfather started the business in New Jersey in 1904,” Brummer says.
If you are in need of warm and snuggly cloth- ing for all ages, stop in to Cheryl’s Fashion Boutique a headquarters for many fine pieces of alpaca clothing. Fashions by Joseph Ribkoff are featured. A popular piece this season is a boucle lounger that will wrap you in warmth and softness. Fine gifts are also available.
