Tim Rotsinger, Sandusky
By Brenda Haas, Feature Writer
With over three decades in the commercial industry, ferry boat Captain Tim Rotsinger, of Castalia, remembers his interest in boats began with his father’s Lyman.
“Everything I do, I put my heart and soul into,” said Tim, who restored his own 24’ Lyman. “If it’s worth doing...it’s got to be done well.” He attributes his work ethic to his parents and earliest job experience. His first season with the Neuman Boat Line, in 1981,
convinced him to pursue a career on the lake.
“John Neuman took a chance on an 18-year-old kid and gave me a lot of knowledge,” said Tim.
That early work experience taught Tim to give his word—with a firm handshake—and look a person in the eye.
Ferrying people, livestock, or even North Bass grapes, Tim captained Neuman’s boats, until 2002. He moved on to be a Captain on Cleveland’s Nautica Queen, aided Homeland Security in developing port security plans, delivered private vessels throughout the Great Lakes, and eventually landed on Catawba Island Club’s vessel GEMINI. Active with Winous Point Shooting Club, his hobbies also include music, ice fishing, and ice sailing. He and Janet, his wife of 30+ years, have two children.
“I’m glad the path that I went down was the right one,” said Tim, who now manages Sandusky’s Son Rise Marina. “As an American, you have an opportunity...Make the best of your opportunities.”

These sunny, summery days won’t be with us too much longer. Opportunities to enjoy family time will soon be replaced with school work (in classrooms or virtually) and cooler temps as fall approaches.
So, let the dogs out! Enjoy these last few weeks of freedom and sunshine.

Days of Summer! Ever wonder why this time of the year is referred to as the Dog Days?
According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the phrase actually started in ancient Greece and Rome. At this time of year, Sirius, the Dog Star, is the brightest star in the sky, aside from our Sun. It’s part of the constellation known as Canis Majoris (the Greater Dog). The ancient people believed that the heat of super-bright Sirius, combined with the heat of the Sun, was the cause of the sweltering temperatures.
While the Dog Days bring warm temperatures with them, they also bring lots of opportunities for fun. We
