Firelands Symphony To Present Free Bicentennial Concert
The Sandusky Bay Pavilion will be the venue (weather permitting) for a free concert on Sunday, August 19 at 7pm performed in honor of the Sandusky Bicentennial. The event will feature the full Firelands Symphony Orchestra with Carl Topilow, Music Director and Conductor. In the event of rain, the Sandusky State Theatre will be the alternate location.
Joining the orchestra will be guest artist, Dan May, an assortment of area gospel choirs, and local High School Bands. Food and beverage vendors will be on hand. A dazzling fireworks display will be the finale of the evening.
The Sandusky Bicentennial Committee is sponsoring the event with The Lange Trust of the Sandusky Library as the Guest Artist Sponsor.

American Presidents Film And Literary Festival
The first film and literary festival to focus on the American Presidency will take place October 4-7 in Fremont, home of America’s first presidential library. The American Presidents Film & Literary Festival will focus on issues related to the American Presidency. The literary component will include talks by featured authors and essay and poetry contests.
Several community partners, including the Liberty and Learning Foundation, Birchard Public Library, Fremont City Schools and the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums, are organizing the festival. It will take place at various locations around Fremont, including The Strand Concert Theater, Fremont City Schools, the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums and Birchard Public Library.
Kirk Ellis, screenwriter for the 2008 HBO miniseries “John Adams,” will be the keynote speaker. He will speak on October 6 at The Strand Concert Theater.
On the literary side, children’s book author Connie Remlinger Trounstine, of Cincinnati, will speak to student groups at Fremont City Schools and have a public event during the festival. Trounstine wrote “Fingerprints on the Table: The Story of the White House Treaty Table.” Her book focuses on the White House Treaty Table and the people who have used it, from politicians and foreign dignitaries to kids who lived in the White House.
