Hello Summer!
The Firelands Sympho- ny Orchestra will have something for everyone in the Hello to Summer 2021 Pops Concert, scheduled for June 5 at Veterans Memo- rial Lake Park in Norwalk. For me, this will be a trip back in time. I grew up close to the reservoir, and I’m hoping to meet an old friend from school for this concert.
What could be better than
classic rock performed by
the orchestra, plus music
from the stage and screen?
The events of the past year
or so have been chaotic, to Laura Pedersen, Vocalist say the least, for the FSO – so

The Cleveland Museum of Art recently com-
pleted reinstallation of the Contemporary Art Galleries. I’m hoping to make a trip there before the end of the summer to see some exhibits fea- turing art from Korea, Japan, India, and China. Also, “Medieval Treasures from Munster Cathe- dral” runs through Aug. 14.

June
this summer’s lineup of outdoor concerts seems the perfect way to celebrate the future. The FSO is calling this The Flip Season.
An Independence Day Pops Celebration is scheduled for July fourth at the new performance space at Jackson Street Pier in Sandusky. That’s the same location as the Christmas in July Holiday Pops event, which is July 25. That won’t be just a concert – there will be holiday shopping, plus a visit from Santa.
I’ll be returning back to my school days once again for “Su- perstar: The Songs. The Stories. The Carpenters.” That con- cert, scheduled for Aug. 7 back at Veterans Memorial Lake Park in Norwalk, features Helen Welch performing music by the brother and sister duo The Carpenters. In my head, I’m singing the songs from 1970s radio in my head as I write.
The Flip Season ends Sept. 18 at Paper Moon Vineyards in Vermilion with a performance from Hey Mavis. The Amer- icana music features the FSO plus members of Hey Mavis playing banjo, fiddle, bass, and drums, plus providing vocals.
Farmer’s Markets - Coming Soon!
One of my favorite things about summer is being able
to buy produce locally, both at farm stands and at farmers markets. I wasn’t able to do as much as I liked last sum- mer, so I plan to make up for that this year. A new farmers market will be in Port Clinton on Sundays, starting June 20. The down-
town area is so
much fun, now
that the Meals
On Madison
area is open
again.
Fremont has farmers mar- kets once or twice a month in warmer weather.
This year’s
first market
is June 19 in
the downtown
area, and it’s
coupled with a car show. In Vermilion, the farmers market will be held on Saturdays from July 3 through Aug. 28 in Victory Park. Norwalk and Sandusky markets are held on Saturdays starting June 5. The Norwalk location is in the parking lot of the Masonic Lodge. In Sandusky the market is held downtown on Washington Row.
Readers, please do me the favor of letting me know if I am missing any good farmers markets in this area!
