Keeper’s House Open For 2018 Season

Volunteers of all ages, in- cluding members of Danbury Scout Troop 331 and their leader Curt Laubner participated as they have for the past several years. The wood pile was organized for the com- ing season of fireplace cooking, mulch was added to the landscaping previously planted by Sally Heximer and her husband Rich Vedel, and the interiors of the annex and the Keeper’s House were swept, polished, and made ready for the season of open houses which are now underway.
The House schedule runs through September 1, Tues- day, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, from 1:00-5:00. Docents guide tours of the 1820’s restored home of the first
Keeper’s of the Marblehead peninsula light- house, and the adjacent museum/gift shop and cemetery.
Special events include the Rotary Perch Wagon, Saturday July 14 from 11:00-3:00; and the annual Civil War Encampment on Saturday, October 13, also from 11:00-3:00. The encampment will again feature the 14th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and the 73rd OVI Regiment Band. The fireplace cooking events are July 14, and October 13. Groups are welcome any time by appointment, by calling 419-798-9339.
The Wolcott Keeper’s House recently underwent a repair and restoration of the original stone work by Masonry Construc- tion of Port Clinton, and is in good shape to enthrall visitors for many more decades to come.
