Friends of Harbour Town Executive Director Charl Gabel is thrilled about her first year at the helm which focuses on “family, community and business.” The group will
be maintaining several past projectslikethe48thTraders Exchange, June 15-17; Historic Summer Fair featuring the Lake Shore Corvette Club, July 7; and the 48th Annual Antique, Collectible and Artisan Show, August 4. New this year will be the Honoring our Heroes motorcycle rally, July 21 along with the Honey
Bee Awareness Festival, August 18, celebrating the environmental importance of honey bees. The day long events are free from 10 am -5pm at Exchange Park, Routes 6 and 60.
More exciting events are planned by Main Street Vermilion. Executive Director Marilou Suszko says, “When people come together the community comes alive.” Several on-going projects are either promoted or sponsored by Main Street Vermilion which focuses on the city’s economic development, revitalizing the historic downtown and preservation of the city’s
history.
“People contribute
time, talent and treasure to the city,” Suszko emphasizes. The lighthouse preservation project was completed under their watchful eye while planting and care of the beautiful flowers by Vermilion in Bloom volunteers is under their umbrella. Monthly 3rd Thursdays, May –September, are free musical events on every city corner and in between.
Other projects are the weekly farmers market, June 23-September 8, Vermilion Rail Line daily train viewing platform, andtheArtsGuildGallery featuring paintings and jewelry. The Sea and Shore Art show on July 14 and the
Vermilion Beach Market on August 3, both at Sherod Park, focus on all things nautical and beachy.
See colorful, artistically created sidewalks July 22 when downtown comes alive with chalk drawings; and sports enthusiasts can participate in the Vermilion Harbor Triathalon and Duathalon, August 18-19.
Celebrate 100 years of serving the community with the Ritter Library. Located on Liberty Avenue for the past 50 years, the independent library is affiliated with CLEVENET. Their most recent building renovation earned it an LEED gold award for leadership in energy and environmental design, giving it the distinction of
being the first Ohio public library to be awarded.
Ritter Library festivities include a June 20 book sale and free Friday movies. On July 17, “A Celebration of Animation” will feature the 100 greatest cartoons of all time. Communications Director Patty Kishman says, “A community quilt has been created along with historical displays and monthly presentations, customer appreciation awards and a free town- wide picnic in the park, July 22 with a concert featuring “The Voice” television contestant, Emily Keener.”
