Rayz On The Bay -
A Gem Of A Watering
Hole In Bay View By Sherri Roth, Feature and Food Writer
“Great burgers!” “Fantastic views!” “Nice, cold local brew selection!” “Large portions!” “Awesome service!” “Ex- cellent perch sandwich!” To date, nearly 6,000 Facebook users have posted a “thumbs up” to Rayz on the Bay in the village of Bay View. With scenic summer views from the outdoor decks, an enclosed outdoor bar, comfortable indoor seating plus courtesy dockage within walking distance at Clemons Boats, it’s easy to see why Rayz’ fans, both online and offline, are flourishing.
Issac St. Marie, one of the owners of Rayz on the Bay, offers insight into the restaurant’s beginnings and grow- ing popularity. “For many people who live out in the Bay View region, Terry’s Tavern was a favorite for years. I was excited yet nervous, as it was a big investment and anytime a business changes hands, you face the fact that people may stop sup- porting the business. That didn’t scare my dad. He is a competitor and works harder than anyone I’ve ever met.”
Issac’s fearless father and his
restaurant team took over man-
agement in June of 2015. From a
list of potential new names, Rayz
on the Bay was chosen and it was
on to their first season as an eat-
ery and bar in the beautiful village of Bay View. After a successful summer, a major renovation to the outside and inside of the restaurant was scheduled for the fall and spring.
The summer season of 2016 opened with a fresh look to Rayz as well as a full-time General Manager - no oth- er than Issac. “My dad and I had had many discussions about a place for me in the operation,” explains Issac. He emphasizes that the last thing either of them wanted was to lose the father-son relationship and have it turn into a boss-employee relationship. That concern was put to rest after Issac spent the previous summer helping out while on break from the University of Toledo. His presence within Rayz proved to be a good fit for both father and son and led to Issac taking on the General Manager position.
“Going into our first busy season, business was great and we knew that my dad had made a great decision in coming out here,” says Issac. “We went through growing pains, found talented people and managers, and we hav-
