Have you always wanted to see the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean at Pebble Beach? Or tee off at the “Home of Golf” and play a round at St. Andrews?
You don’t have to book a flight to fulfill your golf fan- tasy. Just head over to Coastal Swing, the first indoor virtual golf experience on Catawba. Coastal Swing, was opened in October, 2019 by Dan Halley.
“I worked in downtown Cleveland for eight years in the corporate world. I was married last September and my wife is from Catawba. I saw that there was nothing like this in the area and thought it would be a good opportuni- ty for people,” Halley said.
Golfers use their own clubs and choose from 160 dif- ferent golf courses on two simulators. The simulators in- clude several different surfaces (fairway mat, sand trap patch, and rough patch) to mimic golf course conditions. The ball tees itself and then the golfer hits the ball into the screen. High speed cameras track the ball and projec- tors display the course.
They have a driving range mode where people can prac- tice their swing. It tracks the ball and enables them to see a video playback and get feedback on their swing.
Coastal Swing also has a putting green with six differ-
ent holes, a bar area and high definition televisions. Hal- ley said that they are holding both men’s and women’s golf leagues.
The facility is designed for golfers and for special events. Halley said they have hosted corporate events and bache- lor parties and are open to other groups as well. “For spe- cial events, you can have free rein in the simulators and also use the bar area. We don’t have food but we’ve had groups bring in pizza and others have used a catering ser- vice,” he said.
