the long, arduous process of throwing out all the garbage. “There were many trips to the dump, trips to the main- land, and we donated many bedding items to the Humane Society,” Mrs. Killam indicated. “We retained and cleaned sellable items, started organizing, and cleaned from the ceilings down! Our goal was to make sure the house still looked like a house inside.”
The Parsonage Resale Shop opened in August 2017 to rave reviews. Islanders and visitors alike quickly became fond of the new destination. “They loved that we brought the house back to life and assured us that its previous in- habitants would have loved it too,” Mrs. Killam added.
Shoppers can find a plethora of different kinds of items - furniture, artwork, costume jewelry, china and glassware, books, holiday decorations, kitchen items and appliances, children’s toys, and more - all at extremely competitive prices!
All proceeds raised from sales at the resale shop go to preserving, renovating, and protecting the Old Stone Ger- man Reformed Church and the accompanying Parsonage House. At Christmas it was decorated for the holidays. What was once a decaying vacant space is now one again a vibrant part of the neighborhood.
