Kelleys Island Lore Continued from page 1
Church and remained intact until it was vacated in 1956. After years of neglect and deterioration, the Historical As- sociation gained ownership of the historic church and it has undergone restorative maintenance and repairs.
Equipped with descriptive placards the museum’s tour is self-guided and gives the visitor an ethereal feel for what life was really like for the island’s settlers. The museum has a permanent display of exhibits that focuses on local wineries, fishing, ice boating, farming and quar- rying. In addition to the permanent artifacts, the museum also adds special exhibits every summer and this year’s themes are “Bringing Electricity to Kelleys Islands” and “Bathing Beauties of the 1950’s.”
and you will be able to participate. Please come in cos- tume (they suggest Millionaire Elegant) and if you do not want to come in costume they can provide masks for you to wear. There will be entertainment, food and many super surprises.
“The focus this year will be on giving the Parsonage the sorely needed attention it deserves.” Cindy Herndon said, “Some of the things we would like to do include re- connecting the electricity to the building and to make it more suitable for the resale shop and other potential fu- ture uses.”
Tickets for the Murder Mystery Masquerade are $75.00 and can be purchased from their website http://

All Together Fremont Farmers Market
Downtown Fremont Inc. will be hosting the Croghan Colonial Bank Farmers Market in conjunction with the All Together Fremont Event. During the event, there will be Ethnic Foods and Cultural Awareness events through- out the market. Many cultural musical groups will be performing around the market: Victor Samalot (Acous- tic Instrumental Guitarist), Fremont Ross High School Drumline, West African Rhythm with Sogbery, Earnest L. Corsi (Italian Accordionist) and Ardan Academy of Iris Dance. All are Welcome! ¡Todos Bienvenidos!
Finally, the third pillar of the Historical Society’s at- traction is the Parsonage House which houses a resale shop. The German Evangelical Reform Church was for- mally organized in October 1865. The parsonage, next door, was built in 1888, to fill the need for a residence for visiting ministers and later, a permanent minister. The last official service in the church was the funeral for Wil- liam Burger in 1942, who had served many years as Sun- day School Superintendent. In 2017, the Historical As- sociation turned the Parsonage into the resale shop. The shop is very popular with the visitors, as they can stumble across tremendous bargains and see what the house looks like inside.
Now that you know the story behind one of Kelleys Island’s hidden gems, there is one more unique experience that you can top off your Historical Society visit with – 2018’s annual benefit will be entitled “Murder Mystery Masquerade on Long Point.”
While they are still working out the details, we do know that it will be held on the grounds of one of the lovely homes on Long Point. It will be a murder mystery
